Over the last several years, multiple studies have examined that question and the results are conclusive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nielsen.com\/us\/en\/insights\/report\/2015\/the-sustainability-imperative-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sustainability Imperative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d is a report issued in October 2015 by Nielsen, a \u201cglobal performance management company that provides a comprehensive understanding of what consumers watch and buy\u201d. This report notes that:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn the past year alone, sales of consumer goods from brands with a demonstrated commitment to sustainability have grown more than 4% globally, while those without grew less than 1%.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSixty-six percent of consumers say they are willing to pay more for sustainable brands \u2013 up from 55% in 2014 and 50% in 2013.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbesnycouncil\/2018\/11\/21\/do-customers-really-care-about-your-environmental-impact\/#d84afbb240d0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forbes Magazine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported on a 2017 study that likewise confirmed that there is an ever-increasing demand for environmentally-friendly products. Forbes cites the key takeaways from the report:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 68% of millennials bought a product with a social or environmental benefit in the past 12 months.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 87% of consumers will have a more positive image of a company that supports social or environmental issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 88% will be more loyal to a company that supports social or environmental issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 87% would buy a product with a social and environmental benefit if given the opportunity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 92% will be more likely to trust a company that supports social or environmental issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the reports have focused on consumable items but the increasing demand for green products is not limited to such things as groceries, personal care products, and textile and paper products. There is also a growing swell of demand for environmentally-friendly durable items.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the most recent TrendWatching quarterly report, demand for eco-friendly products is at the top of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/trendwatching.com\/quarterly\/2019-11\/5-trends-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c5 Trends for 2020\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The report, which cites the Tesla Model 3 automobile as an example, says, in part:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c\u2026 When eco-alternatives are as available, affordable and effective as the legacy option, there&#8217;s no reason\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to choose them. Eco-consumption becomes less about the status of opting in, and more about the shame of opting out.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The growing trend toward consumer awareness of environmental concerns and the demand for green products is expected to continue its impact on purchasing decisions.
