Strong Demand for CIPP Technologies Expected to Increase – But There’s a Fly in the Ointment

A recent report in Business Herald predicts that CIPP will enjoy a growing market share well into the foreseeable future, and that North America will be the most dominant region of the CIPP market for the forecast period.

The U.S. alone has roughly half a million miles of laterals that are more than 60 years old and are in need of repair. This, in combination with rising spending by municipalities and an increasing awareness of the advantages of a no-dig CIPP system of pipe rehabilitation are “major drivers positively impacting growth of the global CIPP market”, according to a report recently published by Coherent Market Insights.

This report cites the need for liners that will negotiate bends with negligible wrinkling, one of the many features that Formadrain liners are renowned for. Not only do Formadrain liners effortlessly conform to bends in pipes, they will easily traverse elbows up to 45 degrees. With custom-designed bladders and materials, Formadrain liners can also accommodate 90 degree elbows. Additionally, Formadrain liners smoothly handle transitions between pipe sizes.

The report also reveals that steam curing “was the most dominant segment in curing methods in 2017 as is expected to continue its dominance through 2025”. The report notes that the time required for steam curing is less than with other methods. Formapox 101 will cure within 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the pipe. Formapox 301, formulated for industrial applications and extreme conditions including acids, caustics and solvents, fully cures in two hours. Durapox, the miracle resin, cures in just 90 minutes.

Formadrain pioneered steam cured epoxy-impregnated fiberglass liners in the cold Canadian climate where steam curing is a must for productivity and year-round work. Steam curing, unlike ambient curing, is a controlled process which is vital to a liner’s strength.

With such a cheerful outlook for the future of the CIPP market, what’s the catch?

No Volatile Organic Compounds with Formadrain Liners

One aspect of CIPP pipe rehabilitation that is receiving growing attention is its environmental impact. “Volatile Organic Compound (VOC)Emission during Cured-in-Place Pipe Sewer (CIPP) Pipe Rehabilitation”, a 2016 paper submitted to the University of New Orleans, warns that “long-term VOC inhalation [by] workers and short-term exposure for building residents have the potential to impact the quality of their life and may cause health effect which need to be investigated and elucidated”. The United States Environmental Protection Agency lists multiple health concerns associated with exposure to VOCs. Numerous articles in publications such as the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and others warn of the dangers of exposure to VOCs and call for legislation to limit emissions.

The risks associated with VOCs are completely eliminated with Formadrain’s green technology and their commitment to environmental stewardship. Formadrain liners are made with epoxy resins that contain zero volatile organic compounds. Formadrain resins are approved NSF 14 for sewers/drains and ICC-ES for plumbing code compliance.

With the Formadrain system of pipe rehabilitation, you get a seamless, structurally sound, and durable liner with no health risk to your crews or your customers.
